Trek the iconic Tasmanian Overland Track and raft the wild waters of the Franklin River

Locations: 

  • Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, Tasmania

  • Franklin River, Tasmania

Best Time

  • The ideal time to trek the overland trail is late October to early April when conditions are safest and most enjoyable.

  • The best time to raft on the Franklin river is between November to March when the river levels make for a thrilling yet safe rafting experience.

Duration: 

  • 13 nights total, including 6 days of trekking & 7 days of rafting

Group: 

  • Normally 6 to 14 participants, including an experienced Australian trek leader

  • Minimum age is 16.

Difficulty Level: 

  • Both trekking and rafting components are considered challenging. Suitable for adventurous, physically fit individuals.

Fitness Requirements: 

  • Moderate to high fitness level required. 

​Technical Skills:

  • No prior technical skills (hiking or rafting) are necessary, but you must be comfortable in remote wilderness and prepared for unpredictable conditions and situations.

The Overland Track

Day 1 - Travel to Launceston 

Day 2 -Cradle Mountain to Waterfall Valley 

Distance: 5km

Day 3 -Waterfall Valley to Lake Windermere

Distance: 7km

Day 4 -Lake Windermere to Pelion 

Distance: 14km

Day 5 - Pelion to Kia Ora

Distance: 8.2km

Day 6 - Kia Ora to Windy Ridge

Distance: 8.6km

Day 7 - Windy Ridge to Narcissus Hut 

Ferry to Cynthia bay to overnight accommodation 

Distance: 9.5km

Day 8- Travel 

Onwards to Franklin River rafting or return home 

Rafters will be transferred to the river or if not rafting return to Launceston/Hobart

Franklin River Rafting

Day 8 - Collingwood River to Franklin Junction

Distance: 15km

Day 9 - Franklin Junction to Irenabyss

Distance: 25km

Day 10 - Irenabyss to Frenchman's Cap

Distance: 10km

Rafting to base of climb, followed by a summit walk

Day 11 - Irenabyss to Engineer Range

Distance: 30km

Day 12 - Engineer Range to Serenity Sound

Distance: 25km

Day 13 - Serenity Sound to Rafters Basin

Distance: 30km

Day 14 - Rafters Basin to Mt. McCall Track

Distance: 15km
