Embark on an unforgettable journey along Papua New Guinea’s legendary Kokoda Track, followed by a well-earned retreat on the serene northern beaches. This demanding yet deeply rewarding trek traces the path of WWII soldiers through dense jungles, steep mountain passes, and remote villages, offering a powerful blend of history, culture, and personal challenges. The 96-kilometre trail is not only a test of endurance but also an opportunity to connect with the resilient local communities who call this rugged landscape home.

After completing the trek, spend time on Papua New Guinea’s picturesque northern beaches, where you can visit local markets, explore wartime relics, and meet the families of the porters who supported your journey. The Northern Beaches extension offers a chance to relax, recharge, and gain a deeper appreciation for the people and history that make Kokoda such an extraordinary experience.

  • Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea

Best Time to Trek

  • The dry season from April to October is ideal; however, the weather can still be unpredictable. and you should be prepared for rain and varying temperatures.

Duration: 

  • 11 nights total, including 8 days of hiking.

Group: 

  • Normally 6 to 14 participants, including an experienced Australian trek leader

  • Minimum age is 16.

Difficulty Level: 

  • Challenging. Suitable for experienced hikers or those with extensive preparation

Fitness Requirements: 

  • Moderate to high fitness level required. Participants should prepare for steep ascents and descents, humid conditions. ​​

​Wilderness Skills:

  • No prior wilderness skills are necessary, but you must be comfortable in remote locations and prepared for unpredictable conditions and situations.

Day 1 - Travel day - Cairns, QLD

Day 2 - Arrive in PNG & commencing the trek 

 Port Moresby - Ower's corner to Goodwater Camp 

Distance: 4km

Day 3 - On the Track

Goodwater to Iorabiawa

Distance: 9km

Day 4 - On the Track 

Iorabiawa to Nauro Village

Distance: 11km

Day 5 - On the Track 

Nauro Village to Manari Village

Distance: 10km

Day 6 - On the Track 

Manari Village to Naduri

Distance: 16km

Day 7 - On the Track 

Naduri to Templeton's Crossing

Distance: 15km

Day 8 - On the Track 

Templeton's Crossing to Isurava

Distance: 11km

Day 9 - On the Track 

Isurava to Hoi

Distance: 9km

Day 10 - Finish the trek & head to the beach's 

Hoi - Kokoda - Northern Beach's

Distance: 7km

Day 11  -Northern Beaches & Return home

Northern Beaches - Popondetta - Port Moresby - Home
