Our average group size is 10-15. We keep our groups small to minimise impact on the environment and villages and to maximise your experience and safety.

Our guides are trained in wilderness first aid and remote area emergency response skills.

We provide a comprehensive remote adventure preparation program. Your safety and enjoyment of the trip is our number 1 priority.

We also provide a thorough insight into the military history; visiting numerous battle sites and places of significance along the track where we take time out to pay our respects at these sacred places.

Our trek itinerary is 9days/8nights to give you plenty of time and flexibility to enjoy the journey, soak up the culture and scenery and to visit sites off the main track. We also add extra nights at the northern beaches, visiting Buna, Sanananda and Gona where the military campaign started and ended. This itinerary provides a more thorough experience of the history and culture.

Most of our treks are scheduled from July to September each year as this avoids the busy periods around Anzac week; it is a more favourable time of year weather wise and from a historical significance point of view, it coincides with the anniversary of most of the major battles between Kokoda, Isurava and Brigade Hill. Other dates can be arranged for exclusive groups on request

75th Anniversary TREK July 13th to 23rd, 2017

Please see additional information below for specific trek itinerary, prices and inclusions.

Please email: wayne@freespiritadventures.com.au if you would like to reserve a spot on any of next year's treks.

Having taken 100's of people ranging in age from 14 to 74yrs on the journey so far; we've come to understand that anyone can do it with the right preparation and enjoy the experience. The biggest lesson we've learnt is that our perceived limits are self-imposed. Our unique preparation program prepares you mentally, physically and emotionally so that you get the most out of the experience and take away valuable lessons that have a positive impact on your personal and professional life.

Our 'Remote Adventure Preparation' Program includes:

  • Planning Sessions
  • Kokoda Specific Conditioning Prescription
  • Group Preparation Walks
  • 2 Day Pre-trek Team Building Expedition

The program runs over six months and culminates with the team expedition weekend just before the Kokoda trip. Our trekkers often comment on how valuable this program is in terms of preparation for the Kokoda challenge and their own personal development.

"Last weekend was so incredible!  Can't find the accurate superlative to tell you how much I enjoyed it.    Thank you, thank you, thank you! "  Pam Beal

Additonal Information

75th Anniversary Trek - July 13th - 23rd, 2017

This year marks 75 years since the battles were fought along the Kokoda Track and on the northern beaches of Papua New Guinea from July 1942 through to February 1943, when PNG was an Australian Territory. Awareness and recognition of the significance of this epic battle in the defense of Australia against a Japanese invasion during World War 2 has become more well known in the last 10years but still many Australian's no little of what transpired during the Kokoda campaign and for many Australians young and old it has become a pilgrimage walk and a life changing experience that will stay with them forever - Not only due to the significance of the history but also because of the enduring relationship we still have with the descendents of the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels who supported our forefathers during some of the most challenging of circumstances. Today the Kokoda Track is a place of peace and tranquility, beauty beyond measure and one of the most challenging yet awe inspiring bushwalks in the world. The heart of this land and its people beats strong, as you walk through the landscape and feel the emotion of the history and the connection to the mountains and the people who inhabit this sacred place. Join us in July to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Kokoda Campaign and to share in a life-changing experience that you will always remember.
